If you’re a fan of video game competitions, the place to be in Montreal this last weekend was at DreamHack!
For three days, starting September 7 to 9, the event took place at the Olympic Stadium. There was a lot going on over there! Video game tournaments as well as booths to play video games were present, and much more! If you want, you can also buy tickets that allow you to bring your own computer (BYOC) and play games all weekend long with new and old friends.
I personally went on Sunday because it is on that day that most of the tournament finals happen. I’m a big fan of fighting games, so I watched the top 16s for Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, Super Smash Bros. Melee as well as Street Fighter V! There was also StarCraft II, Counter Strike: Global Offensive and Rainbow Six Siege finals happening on that day!
While I was there, I took the time to go try some games at the Nintendo booth! I finally played the new Super Smash Bros. Ultimate game and it was very fun. I also visited the Indie Game Zone, where a bunch of indie developers gather and come with builds of their games so we can try them out. If you wanted to, you could also just sit down and watch a few speedruns!
Last year’s DreamHack was nice, but this year they’ve really raised the bar especially with the beautiful venue at the Olympic Stadium. Overall, I’d say it is worth the price of entry and I’m definitely going back next year!
